For Creative Work, Be Prepared for Boring, Repetitive Tasks.
Based on the films, creativity is free ideas and a complete lack of discipline. In fact, being an artist is hard work. If you want to create your own art, be prepared for boring little things.
This is the advice of wood artist Mira Nakashima. As she explains on 99u’s Creative Productivity website, skill building takes discipline. The discipline of sitting still and learning or practicing something over and over until you master it doesn’t always come naturally. This is contrary to our preconceived notions of what it means to be an “artist”, but it is the key to developing your skills.
If you are a creative person, I think it needs some discipline and rote memorization. In Europe and the Far East, there is a “master and student” system, when the student simply does what he is told. And he gets fired if he doesn’t. You need to learn the structure of your craft from your master, which will take a lot of time and a lot of patience.
You may need some free time to get inspired and give free rein to ideas , but implementing them is only a small part of the creative process. The work to bring them to life is often boring and monotonous. However, the result will be something that can stand on its own.
