Rest of the Day: IOS 10.1 Brings Portrait Mode to IPhone 7 Plus
Apple today released iOS 10.1, a small but important update to the operating system. The most exciting new feature is undoubtedly the highly-publicized Portrait Mode, exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus, that makes your photos look like they were taken with a DSLR. About this and much more in today’s news.
- You should upgrade to iOS 10.1 even if you don’t have 7 Plus, as the update also includes various bug fixes, performance improvements, and security fixes. When it comes to portrait mode, it’s pretty cool and often produces impressive results, but digitally shallow depth of field doesn’t always hold up to scrutiny . Apple claims this feature is still in beta testing, so there will no doubt be improvements to it. [9to5Mac and WSJ]
- Apple has also released updates for all of its operating systems, including macOS 10.12.1 , watchOS 3.1, and tvOS 10.0.1 . [9to5Mac]
- You can now use PayPal on Facebook Messenger. In other words, when you make an in-app payment for any reason – for example, to a company address via a chatbot – you can use your PayPal information to pay them. The feature is currently being rolled out in the United States. [VentureBeat]
- Pokémon Go is going to be creepy. From October 26 to November 1, they celebrate Halloween by making some ghost Pokémon appear more often and increasing the candy rewards. Check out the preview below. [Kotaku]
