Sucanat Is a Delicious White Sugar Alternative That Goes Further (so You Can Use Less)
I have nothing against regular white sugar, but I would like to introduce you to its less refined, more flavorful cousin: sucanat .
Sukanat (short for sucre de canne naturel ) is a natural cane sugar that is obtained by extracting the juice from the sugarcane plant and grinding it into granules with a spatula. It is much less processed than white sugar, making it more aromatic and darker in color:
Sucanat is much more flavorful than regular white sugar, which means that a small amount goes a long way in providing sweetness and flavor to a wide variety of recipes. And since they retain most of their natural molasses, Sucanat granules are brownish brown with a deep molasses flavor that our tasters loved. (When heated, it becomes caramelly between 250 and 270 degrees.)

Once beautiful and powdery, it can be baked into cookies, cakes, or any other baked goods that will benefit from its deep caramel flavor.
