Space Saving College Workspace

Most college students have to fiddle with the writing desk and furniture they get in their dorm room, but redditor Temachu wanted something a little more personal. He grabbed a desk from IKEA, dirtied it himself, and assembled a sharp-looking bench topped with a Linux PC.

The beauty of setting up Temachu is that it looks great and looks like he’s actually using everything on his desk rather than keeping it clean and empty just for the sake of it. Minimalism has a place, but there is a lot – and a lot of useful stuff – but it still looks orderly and well-organized. The screenshot above is a close-up of his actual workspace, but here’s a smaller version:

This computer is a Linux PC that Imachu says he uses because he tweaked his Windows desktop so much that he ended up rebooting his system. It still boots occasionally on Windows, but plays light games that it can make on Linux (TF2, CS: Go) and then uses the rest for work and study. Here is an enlarged shot of the entire workspace from the back.

Incidentally , the table is an IKEA GERTON , soiled as we mentioned, and the chair is a used Steelcase Leap , one of your favorite office chairs . There are more specs – monitor, DAC / amp, and so on – on the Reddit thread linked below, so if you’re curious, definitely check it out to find out more.

If you have your own workspace to show off, share it with us by adding it to our Lifehacker Workspace Show and Tell Flickr pool . Make sure all photos you add are at least 1280×720 in size. And adhering to the 16: 9 aspect ratio helps too! Include a little text about what you used, how you came up with the design, and any other important details. If your smart organization and good design flair are striking, you could be the next workplace ambassador!
