Allo, Google’s New Messaging App, Rolls Out Now
Android / iOS: Google is launching Allo today, the messaging app it announced on I / O earlier this summer . This is also the first exposure to the new Google Assistant.
Allo uses your phone number to communicate with other users instead of your Google account, so you don’t need to register to send messages. So it’s a bit like WhatsApp in that respect. Once in the app, you can send messages, photos, videos, your location, stickers or emoji. For a brand new messaging app, this is pretty reliable.
However, where Allo really wants to stand out is with the help of Google Assistant. While you are talking, the Assistant may suggest useful suggestions or tasks for you. So, for example, if you’re talking to a friend about dinner plans, the Assistant might suggest finding a restaurant or adding an event to your calendar.
Allo is currently rolling out to Android and iOS users. Unfortunately, there is no desktop equivalent yet, which puts Allo at a clear disadvantage compared to other messaging apps. However, it is interesting enough to be tested.
