The Rest of the Day: Plex for Windows 10 Is Now Truly Versatile
If you’re using Plex on a variety of Windows 10 devices to organize your media, you’ll be glad to know that their recently updated app takes advantage of the various universal experiences of Windows apps like Cortana. About this and much more in today’s news.
- Plex already released an app developed on the Universal Windows Platform back in July, but this version didn’t actually take full advantage of the Universal Platform. The new Windows 10 app can actually run on Windows phones, integrates with Cortana, and supports Continuum – which means you can run it as a desktop app if you connect your Windows phone to an external monitor. - Pokémon Go has a new friends system that lets you earn candy for your favorite Pokémon just by walking. But how far do you need to go to really develop your Pokémon? If, for example, you want to turn a Chameleon into a Charizard, you need to walk from Dallas to Austin, Texas. Only 300 km. [Kotaku]
- HBO and Cinemax are moving to PlayStation Vue, Sony’s streaming service. And there will also be a separate HBO Now app on PS4 and PS3 if you just want HBO. They will be available ahead of the October 2 premiere of Westworld. [PlayStation Blog]
- Software developer John Brooks has just released an OS update for the Apple II. ProDOS 2.4 includes a menu-driven launcher called Bitsy Bye and other utilities such as the BASIC interpreter and the “Unshrink” extender. [Ars Technica]
- Zipcar runs a bike exchange program on 15 campuses. As with car sharing, students will be able to rent a bike for a specific period of time after paying a membership fee, as well as at a fixed hourly rate for additional time. (When I was in college, I bought a bike from Walmart for about a hundred dollars — and that was fine! —But to each his own.) [The Verge]
