How to Get the Most Out of the New Photos App in IOS 10
One of the relatively subtle new features in iOS 10 is the smarter Photos app, which makes organizing your photos easier. It usually succeeds, but some of its best features are not obvious or obvious to use. Let’s see how to use the new features.
Add faces and names of people
Photos can now search for people’s faces in photos, making it much easier to find your friends’ photos. However, it is not entirely obvious how to use this feature or how to configure it.
In the Photos app, you’ll find the People section under the Albums section. When you first open Photos, it may take a while to scan your library and find faces. Once that’s done, click on “Add People” and find the person’s face. Tap the image again, then tap the somewhat hidden Add Name field at the top of the screen. Enter the person’s name and Photos will try to find it in other photos.
Once you’ve set up multiple people, you can click and drag any image to your favorites menu to make them easier to find in the future. You can also click Select to open another menu where you can immediately hide people, favorites, or combine two different sets of photos into one.
Search images by keywords
In addition to facial recognition, the Photos app now also tries to recognize objects. It does this behind the scenes by scanning your photos and adding labels. Photos never tell you this directly, and there is no way to see what labels are applied to photos.
So, the only way to see this new search feature in action is to tap the search bar and try to find an item. The photographs here seem to be pretty good and allow you to distinguish objects such as clouds, cars, buildings, and more.
Edit titles in memory tab and customize slideshow
Photos automatically creates a slideshow called Memories, which works in a similar way to the slideshow in Google Photos . At first glance, you can only edit a few of them, and oddly enough, there is no way to manually create your own.
You can edit any memory that includes a full slideshow (a play button is displayed). Tap the play button, then tap the screen again. Here you will find a screen where you can quickly scroll through the different “tones” that change the font and music of the slideshow. This includes options such as “extreme,” which sounds funny-sounding heavy metal to your dad, or “uplifting,” which adds a Lord of the Rings -style soundtrack to your slideshow.
If you need a little more control, tap the Settings switch in the lower right corner. Here you can choose your own songs, choose which photos are displayed, change the title, and more. Oddly enough, you can only select photos that are automatically assigned to this memory.
Also remember: these slideshows are created automatically, often with seemingly random images from your photos. So be careful which images you saved and hide the ones you don’t want to show here .
Draw on photos with markup
For some time, markup has been available in several apps, but now it’s fully integrated into Photos. When you’re in the photo editing screen, tap the Settings button, then the … icon, then Markup. Here you will find tools for drawing on an image, enlarging a section, and adding text.
