Make a “reverse Wish List” When You Plateau With Your Goals
We all have goals that we are working on, and at some point you may reach a financial plateau with those goals . During this time, it is easy to lose patience and lose sight of what you already have. During this plateau, a reverse wishlist can come in handy.
Writer Claire on the minimalist personal finance site Want Less explains:
You can start, as I did, by exploring different ways of living. You can start reading about people retiring at age 30 after saving wildly and drastically cutting their spending. You can start reading about people who sell almost everything they own and start traveling the world … You fantasize about all lives except yours. Wanting to make big changes in your life is a worthwhile goal. But it can make you even less happy in your daily life.
At some point, even if you are working towards these goals, you will reach a point where all you can do is keep working towards them. You may feel bored and less agitated. You may begin to feel dissatisfied with your current life.
Claire offers a reverse wishlist – a list of great things you’ve done in your life. This is a simple exercise, and you may feel a little boastful or silly doing it, but it goes a long way towards feeling a lot of gratitude. As Claire says:
it was a reminder that life doesn’t start when I get my dream job, or I quit the rat race, or I moved abroad, or I sold all my belongings. This is happening now and it can be pretty damn cool.
Feelings of gratitude can also go a long way in improving your finances , and it can keep you on track to your goal. To see the full version of the message, follow the link below.
