Specialty Storage Containers Probably Aren’t Worth Your Money
People are always looking for a better way to keep their food fresh for longer, and some companies make plastic storage containers that claim to do so. But they are not cheap. And while they technically work, you’re probably better off saving the $ 50 that you’re likely to spend on the complete set.
Consumer Reports tested seven different food storage containers that claim to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, including the popular Oxo Good Grips Greensaver and Rubbermaid Fresh Works containers , to see if they actually kept food fresh longer. As it turns out, they are about as effective as any other container. In fact, as Bernie Dietrick explains in a YouTube video from Consumer Reports , the plastic shell for your products usually comes pre-packaged in products as well. However, if you are buying in bulk and want to store large quantities of certain fruits or vegetables in a single container, those foods may still be a reason to buy . Otherwise, just use what you get for free. Plus, according to Ellen Cloche of Consumer Reports, what matters most is your refrigerator, its settings and storage space .
