September Money Challenge: Find a Cheaper Mobile Data Plan
Starting in January, we have been challenging each month as part of the one-year Lifehacker Ultimate Money Challenge . This month we’re taking on a special expense that’s easy to cut: your mobile phone bill. We suggest you find a cheaper plan with the same level of service.
There are many non-contract pay-as-you-go plans out there, and many of these discount carriers have forced the big players to offer better prices , so there is plenty to choose from. We told you earlier that major carrier contract plans offer some of the worst deals, and it’s amazing how many people still overpay for phone services.
If you’ve been thinking about a cheaper plan but haven’t thought of it yet, now is the time. To help you get started, here are some options and guides we’ve written:
- Top 5 prepaid mobile operators
- How to find the best prepaid plan and leave a contract permanently
- How to withdraw from the contract using a mobile phone without paying the termination fee
- WillMyPhoneWork will show you what carriers your phone will work on
- What to Expect When Changing Your Mobile Operator
Of course, you don’t want to switch to a plan that doesn’t offer the same minutes or data you want. Make sure you know the details of your new plan and you like the network and speed as well. If you rise to this challenge, please let us know how much you are paying now and how much you think you will save each month by switching.
