Rest of the Day: Microsoft Postpones Closing Sunrise
The sunset was postponed. Microsoft has decided to delay closing the Sunrise calendar app as they continue to integrate its functionality into Outlook.
- There is no clear timeline in the calendar; Microsoft told PC World that they would “wait a little longer to add a few more Sunrise-inspired features to Outlook,” after which the application would be closed for good. They previously planned to shut down the app on August 31st. [PC World]
- In other news, Facebook Messenger has a new feature that combines live video with instant messaging. You can start an “instant video” while you are in a conversation with a friend by adding a postage stamp-sized video chat to your written conversation. (Messenger can also host offline old-fashioned video chat.) Watch the demo below. [Facebook]
- Android developers can now apply to host their beta releases on the Play Store. In the past, downloading beta releases was a bit of a hassle that required you to join a Google group or “additional download” an app outside of the Play Store, but Google is relaxing those restrictions to make things easier for both developers and beta testers. - Twitter encourages popular users to post more videos by offering new monetization options. Amplify’s Publisher Program allows creators to display ads at the start of a video for a fraction of the revenue generated by YouTube. [Twitter]
