Why You Should Buy Makrut Lime Leaves Immediately
I was sitting in my regular chair at my regular bar last Sunday when my regular bartender asked if he could taste the fancy drink on me (my favorite game). Very green leaves, like wax, floated in the mysterious drink. This little leaf was a makroot lime leaf (which is often found in grocery stores under the name ” kaffir lime leaf “) and the flavor it gave was amazing.
If you have never tasted this little man (which is widely used in Thai cuisine), its distinct aroma is difficult to describe. It is very fresh, very aromatic and slightly citrusy. If I had to choose one word to describe the scent, I would choose “beautiful”.
To use Makrut Lime Leaves in cocktails, shake the porous, non-waxy side of your palm a couple of times and simply place it there. You will be amazed at how much flavor it brings in. Aside from cocktails, these items can be added to soups, rice dishes, gravies, and more. They are also very cheap (look for them in Asian grocery stores) and can be kept in the freezer for several months while retaining their flavor.
