Are You Using KVM Switch (Keyboard / Video / Mouse) More?
Assuming you’re not working in a datacenter, it’s not as often as you used to have multiple computers at the same desk – and even if you do, many displays support multiple inputs, and applications like Synergy control multiple computers using one keyboard and mouse. … So: are you using KVM more or is it an outdated technology?
To be honest, I stopped using KVM a few years ago when I got a display that supports multiple DVI and DisplayPort inputs, so I could connect more than one computer to one display and just switch the display. I don’t even use Synergy – I just like to keep a separate keyboard and mouse for “work” and another for “play,” and switch between them whenever I want, but I’ll admit it’s a tricky decision. However, some people have emailed them asking for suggestions for KVM, and it is difficult to find recent suggestions.
Do any of you still use KVM to control multiple computers with the same peripherals, or have they faded into the background? Let us know in the discussions below.
