New Strava Beacon Sends Your Run or Cycling Location to a Friend

Android / iPhone: Strava is one of our favorite exercise apps and today they are rolling out a new security feature that will share your location with up to three people while you exercise.

The idea here is very simple: if you’re on a run or bike, chances are that you did not tell anyone exactly where you are going. The new Beacon mode lets you share your GPS location in real time, so if you don’t get home in time, people will be able to find you. To enable this feature, open the app, start a new ride or run, then tap the beacon icon in the lower right corner. Once activated, your chosen contacts will be able to see your location either in the Strava app or via a URL that will work in any browser. Unfortunately, you need a Premium subscription to use this feature.
