Lose Caffeine Tolerance by Cutting Your Intake in Half Every Few Days

If your morning coffee doesn’t seem to give you the energy it’s used to, your tolerance may be to blame. You can return your caffeine tolerance to normal levels in about two weeks, but you need to wean yourself off of it.

Getting rid of your caffeine addiction isn’t easy, but gradually cutting back on your coffee, tea, or energy drinks is the least frustrating way to do it. Joseph Rivera, the coffee researcher who founded Coffee Chemistry , explains to Science of Us that cutting consumption in half every few days will help. If you usually drink eight cups of coffee a day, for example, reduce the amount to four cups over two or three days. Then, reduce your intake to two cups for a few days. Rivera says that about a week after weaning, you will stop using caffeine.

If it seems fast, don’t be afraid to do it slowly . After that, you will need to go through an entire – potentially headache-filled – week without caffeine for your body to recover properly.
