Use a Toaster to Cook Your Sweet Potatoes Faster

I really love sweet potatoes (and yams), but I’m not a huge fan of waiting an hour or so to cook them in a (very hot) oven. To cut this endless wait, slice them up and put them in the toaster.

To be honest, I initially reacted poorly to this idea as it was framed as “another gluten-free toast craze.” Let’s be honest: A slice of sweet potato is not a slice of bread no matter how it’s prepared, but aside from Instagram nutrition trends, fried sweet potatoes are delicious.

To begin this step, slice some sweet potatoes longitudinally into 1/4-inch slices and place them in the toaster. Cook them on the highest setting until they begin to brown and can be pierced with a fork. Depending on how hot the toaster is, this will take about fifteen minutes. (You may need to shove them back into the toaster a few times. It’s worth noting that the toaster method is only practical if you are cooking one or two sweet potatoes, but slicing before oven-cooking will also drastically reduce cooking. Remove from toaster and spread over. slices with a regular sweet potato filling, or try the trendy option with cream cheese, almond butter, jelly, or even avocado for maximum fashion.
