Plan a Unique Climbing Trip With This Map

If you enjoy climbing and need a vacation, here’s your inspiration. Five mini road trips will take you to the top ten climbing destinations in each area – or simply browse this picture to find the best climbs in your area.

The data comes from the Mountain Project , which documents the climbing routes. The best time of the year is shown here as a tiny chart for each destination. Ice climbing in the Adirondack is certainly best in winter, but many routes are good in summer or all year round.

The pie charts show which climbing routes you can expect. On routes sport climbing has permanent anchors for your rope. In traditional climbing, you set your own anchors as you climb and release them as you go. And bouldering is done without ropes, keeping close to the ground.
