Take Advantage of a Beginner to Overcome Impostor Syndrome
Impostor syndrome is complex. Of course, this is not always a bad thing , but it can get in the way and get in the way of doing things that are annoying. Here’s something to think about the next time you feel like an imposter: you have the advantage of a fresh look.
Here’s how author, researcher and professor Andy Molinsky explains it in the Harvard Business Review:
You may not be aware of this, but a beginner in your field offers great benefits. If you don’t understand the conventional wisdom of the profession, you may be asking questions you haven’t asked before, or approaching problems in a way that others didn’t think. It’s no surprise, for example, that some of the best research ideas I get as a professor come from students with little prior experience.
Eventually, you’ll get to the point where your work is no longer overwhelmed, it’s less difficult, and you no longer feel like an impostor. Until then, enjoy the fresh look and think of your inexperience as an advantage.
