Ask: “Do I Want to Let This Into My Life?” to Save Space for Important Things

How much shit in your house do you really need? Does the pile of shit you have add to your happiness, or is it just a mess? Keep important things out of the trash by asking yourself, “Do I want to let this into my life?”

As lifestyle and personal finance site Afford Anything explains, you have a limited amount of everything. Limited time, money and energy. Anything you decide to buy or make takes away from these limited resources. So, before you spend something on a new gadget or undertake any new event, ask yourself if this thing will add to your happiness or if there is some other reason why you do it:

Editing is soothing. Happier. And here’s an unintended bonus benefit: when we cure, we also spend less without feeling left out.

We are not trying to save money. We are not thrifty for our own sake. We ask a deeper question: “Do I want to let this into my life?” In most cases, the answer is no. And that creates space for rare things worthy of a yes.

There are many things we do n’t really need or want in our life that we feel pressured to do anyway. It happens to everyone, so there is no shame in it, but we can fight back. If this new gadget doesn’t make your life meaningful, then skip it. If you prefer a quiet evening at home rather than going out just because you need to “keep up”, decline the invitation and save space in your life for important things.
