Write Down Anything You Want to Fix in Your Home With an Annoyance Diary

Not every problem in your home requires a big project to fix it. Some things are just unpleasant, but they are little things that you forget over and over again. Keeping a diary of what annoys you in your home will help you remember to fix it.

Perhaps you are constantly banging your foot on the coffee table, or you feel frustrated every time you go to remove some pots and pans. However, it is small and fixable, but you forget about it until it happens again. That’s why Katie Holdefer of Apartment Therapy invites you to start recording:

For a few days, keep a mindfulness diary with all the little mistakes you encounter at home … When you start writing down these incidents, you will probably become more aware of how you move inside and feel your space. You may notice things that you usually ignore, or you may realize how much time you spend trying to avoid a problem.

For example, in my last apartment I had a poor-quality shower stall, and every time I took a shower, it annoyed me as hell. However, I never remembered to fix it until I wrote it down, which was months after my lease. So when something annoys you in the house, put it aside right away or pop a note into your phone. You would be surprised how much easier you can do things yourself.
