Jobs You Can Count on to Retire Early, but Not Because of the Money
When most of us think of “early retirement,” we think of the easy life, but many people who “retire” early do it because their work is physically demanding and difficult. This new study from the University of Michigan highlights jobs that you can expect to retire sooner (or later) for whatever reason.
The full text of the study is below, but PayScale has identified three positions in which people are most likely to retire early:
- Registered Nurses
- Heavy machine operators
- Transport operators (truck drivers, couriers, etc.)
In short, the reason people in these areas are retiring so quickly is because they are each physically demanding, requiring hours of work, special skills, or dangerous in their own way. Due to time and physical and emotional demands, sometimes these jobs are simply not suitable for older workers, burnout is common, and turnover is high.
On the other hand, there are jobs in which people tend to retire later, partly for financial reasons, but also because they are jobs that people are attracted to at the end of their lives, or people who have them. very attached to them. :
- Lawyers and judges
- Writers
- Musicians and composers
In some of these cases, this career is also a way of life or things that you have trained on for years, so it makes sense that once you reach a certain level (like a composer or a judge), you are not going to leave it terribly quickly. Also, while some of them will make you rich, it cannot be said that these professions do not bring good results when you reach a certain level.
