The Best Way to Create an Unforgettable Hero Sandwich
Making a sandwich usually doesn’t require training, but by checking out Bon Appetit’s guide to making the perfect hero, you can find out a few tips that you can use for all of your sandwich creations.
Bon Appetit’s editor-in-chief, Adam Rapoport, starts with bread and walks you through the best way to build a hero – at least in his opinion, and he admits that people will have different opinions (in particular, his thoughts on mayonnaise, which I personally agree with.) Some of the great suggestions in the video:
- Think architecture more than layering. Wrap the pieces of meat across the sandwich instead of laying them all flat.
- Use a good, plain shredded iceberg lettuce – it adds texture and crunch without being heavy.
- Season the salad – some olive oil and vinaigrette add flavor to this tasteless iceberg.
Of course, these rules are not universal for all types of sandwiches – for example, “iceberg” is by no means a requirement for every sandwich, or you don’t want that crunchy crunch in the center of your sandwich. However, if you are creating a handsome tall character like the one depicted in the video, these are good tips to follow.
