Don’t Underestimate Joint Mobility While Building Strength

When it comes to desirable fitness qualities, sheer strength and speed often overshadows mobility or how well your joints move. Maybe you just don’t think you’re such a pervert. Fortunately, it is a process that increases strength and anyone can work on it.

Mobility is different from flexibility , and in general, having a good range of motion allows you to better exercise and perform everyday movements (such as getting off the couch or reaching for something to connect it). Thus, mobility exercises allow you to actively improve your strength, body control, and range of motion at the same time. This video from Calisthenic Movements explains that if your joints only move within a small range, you are essentially limiting strength and muscle development from exercise. If you ever “accidentally” step outside your limited range, you could hurt yourself, and no one wants to.

If you want to incorporate mobility exercises into your daily routine, include them in your pre-workout warm-up or do some simple exercises on your rest day . Check out thisawesome hip mobility trainer first (great for runners!).
