Simple Desktop With Side Panel

This cool city beach desktop was featured on our tabletop show and story by reader Yuki , and while not thought out, it still looks great. Here’s how you can set it up.

Yuki uses Rainmeter on Windows to get this effect, so if you’re not familiar with it, you can check out our Rainmeter Getting Started Guide here .

From there, here are the components you will need to achieve the same look and feel on your computer:

That’s all there is to know about it. Not a ton of moving parts, but a pretty solid effect, especially if you’re the type to skip the sidebar from earlier versions of Windows and want to bring something like this back to your desktops. If you like the way it looks, follow the Flickr link below and tell Yuki that you like the desktop – and that we sent you with her!

Do you have a beautiful and functional desktop to show off? Share with us! Post it to your personal Kinja blog using the Desktop Showcase tag or add it to our Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr pool . Screenshots must be at least 1280×720 and include information about what you used, links to wallpapers, skins and themes, and any other important information. If your wonderful desktop catches our attention, you may be on our favorites!
