Choose the Right Mortar for Your Tile
Grout is not the sexiest topic, but if you ever try tiling, you will need to familiarize yourself with this topic. Apart therapy divides it into three main types, as well as what they are used for.
- Epoxy Grout : Epoxy grout is rarely used in residential areas as it is expensive, difficult to use and not very beautiful. However, it creates a strong waterproof bond and has a sleek, plastic-like appearance.
- Cement mortar : The cement mortar can be sanded or unsanded and has a grainy appearance. Choose sanded if there are large gaps between tiles, and unsanded if you are working with fine lines. Both types are porous, however, so be sure to seal them to prevent discoloration and re-seal every year or two.
- Hybrid Solution : Get a solution that can handle both! A hybrid mortar should be as durable as an epoxy mortar, but as easy to apply and visually appealing as a cement mortar.
