Focus on Something Unique About Yourself to Get a Job Interview
When you interview for a job, you are already at the door because the company considers you qualified. At this stage, you do not need to constantly confirm your basic qualifications. It’s time to move on to why you are definitely better than other candidates.
As tips site The Muse points out, your resume is what you want, but it’s the interview that solidifies you in the mind of the company. This is the part where you want to stand out. Don’t repeat simple things in your interview, such as how you know Microsoft Word. Talk about what makes you different from other candidates:
First, do you have transferable skills or other qualifications that other candidates are less likely to have? Perhaps your marketing mindset will make you an asset to the tech team. Or, your people skills will help you fit into an office that has recently undergone a fairly significant change in management or direction. These additional aspects of your candidacy will help build the stories you tell.
The more the interviewer remembers you and the more you stand out from the crowd, the more likely you will be called back. Maybe you can do something that most other candidates probably can’t. Maybe you have experience that other candidates do not have. Focus on your unique strengths and what you have to offer.
