Three Common Mistakes People Make When Washing Their Face
Washing your face is important, but it is even more important to do it right so as not to worsen your skin condition. It all comes down to how often and with what to wash.
In this video from YouTube Tech Insider, Dermatologist Dr. Erin Gilbert shares some common mistakes with basic skin care:
- Insufficient Washing: People think that avoiding washing your face helps keep the natural oils on their skin, and while this is partly true, you should still wash your face regularly if you want to avoid breakouts. Dr. Gilbert recommends washing your face at least once a day.
- Using the wrong products: You should wash your face with different types of products depending on the season. In warmer months, you should use a more astringent and foamy cleanser that contains salicylic acid if you are acne-prone. In the colder months, it is recommended that you use a milder, non-soap cleanser to avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils and causing dry skin problems.
- Washing too vigorously: Using a rag or Clearsonic tool to wash your face is fine, but too often or pressing too hard while washing will irritate your skin even more.
It’s also a good idea to find a cleanser that works best for your skin type . And if your skin problems seem to be outside the scope of your usual care, feel free to find a dermatologist near you and sort it out.
