Regular Customers Pay More for Cable, so Call and Bargain for a Better Price

Customer loyalty usually doesn’t pay off. In fact, Consumerist found that loyal cable TV customers typically pay $ 10-20 more per month. It’s worth picking up the phone and asking your cable company for a better deal.

Consumerist examined a series of accounts from actual customers of seven different cable TV providers. Overall, they shared some interesting insights , but here’s what they found in terms of customer loyalty:

We noticed one recurring theme: new customers get better packages for less money than existing ones. When evaluating comparable packages for account directories, we typically saw new customers being offered the same or better service for $ 10-20 less than our current customer. We even found that one ten-year charter customer whose account we hadn’t published was paying about $ 75 more per month than a brand new customer using similar services next door.

It is interesting to see the actual amount that customers pay for their loyalty, and at Consumerist they only looked at cable TV bills, most likely the same rule applies to any service provider that offers new incentives to customers.

While not everyone has a choice of provider, it’s worth calling you and asking for a lower price. Check the prices online and see if they are offering new customers a better deal, then ask for the same deal.
