Use a Vertical Glass in Your Dishwasher As a Dirty Indicator
If people in your home scrub or rinse their dishes well before putting them in the dishwasher, it can be difficult to tell if the dishes are clean or dirty. A small upright cup is a great indicator.
Sure, you could have some sort of indicator on the outside of the dishwasher , but if you want to keep your kitchen clutter-free, Food52’s Alice Medrich recommends trying the following:
Keep a small glass in the top front corner of the counter. A glass filled with water means that the dishes are clean. Empty the glass after removing the dishes: an empty glass means the dishes are dirty.
As long as you remember to empty the glass, it will work every time. No clutter, no clutter, and you barely need to open the dishwasher to check.
