Use the Active Clock in Windows to Prevent Updates When You Need to Use Your Computer

Windows: Microsoft has a nasty habit of pushing updates when they’re least convenient. If you are tired of updates that happen during work, the new Anniversary Update will help you avoid them during work hours.

This new feature will be released later this summer with an Anniversary Update (although Insiders can try it now ). To set your active hours, follow these steps:

  1. Search for “updates” in the “Start” menu and select “Check for Updates”.
  2. In the Update Settings section, click Change Activity Hours.
  3. Set the start and end times for the working day.

Once you set this clock, Windows will not send updates during this period of time. In previous versions of Windows, Microsoft often pushed them, not being able to put them off for too long if you were in the process. The most recent version of Windows (the one you are probably using now if you are not in the Insider Program) allowed you to schedule restart times later if you were busy, but this method is much better to make sure updates are avoided once you are running …
