Rest of the Day: Amazon Wants to Sell Your Indie Movies and Videos

Amazon takes over YouTube? Well, sort of. Amazon is launching a video platform where people can sell their videos and share ad revenue. Comparisons to YouTube are common, but I don’t think they are interested in my webcam confessions.

  • The user-driven video marketplace is called Amazon Video Direct . Video creators can sell, rent or stream their videos with ads and will receive a portion of the ad revenue and sales. I think Amazon is more interested in well-shot videos and indie filmmakers rather than what I shot with my phone. Show no disrespect to YouTube stars; these channels are wide and varied. [Recode]
  • Mozilla brings Test Pilot back to Firefox . Basically, this is their beta version, so you can try out new features before they appear in the browser, but instead of downloading beta builds, you install the plugin into an existing version of Firefox. Right now, new features include a visual representation of your browsing history, universal search, and a tab center. [Mozilla via The Next Web ]
  • Pebble is fleshing out health tracking features in its Pebble Time . The watch and its app can now automatically track your runs, help you find your perfect wake-up time by tracking your sleep, and more. IPhone users can now also start a text conversation from the watch using message templates. [Pebbles across the border ]
  • Twitter has a new view called Your Twitter Data , where you can easily see all the apps and devices that have access to your account. Very helpful if you spot a faulty tweet that you didn’t send yourself, but can’t figure out which app sent it on your behalf. [ InfoSec Taylor Swift ]
  • Here is a searchable database of the Panama Papers . The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung has teamed up with the International Consortium for Investigative Journalism – best friends forever! – to create a database.
