Quiet Squeaky Carpeted Floors With This Set
Over time, as the plywood subfloor underneath your carpet expands and contracts, the nails can loosen and the subfloor separates from the floor joists. While not a safety issue, it is a nuisance: creaking floors under the carpet.
Tom Silva from this old house demonstrates in this video how to fix these squeaks using a special adapter and screws from O’Berry Enterprises’ Squeeeeeek No More kit . At Lowe’s, it costs about $ 20 . You can reattach the plywood to the floor joists without lifting the carpet. The screws go through the carpet and their heads break off so you won’t see or feel them after you’re done.
For a medium sized room, this will take about an hour or two and you will need a cordless drill, hammer, tape measure, and nylon rope.
