Chances are, your biggest expenses are housing, transportation, and food . In most cities with high cost of living, all three of the already high costs are even higher. If you’re planning to move to an expensive city, prepare your hit budget with a trial run.
I did this before moving to Los Angeles. I knew I would pay almost double the rent, and I wanted to save money on the move. To create a savings cushion and get used to overpriced spending, I calculated how much more I could spend in Los Angeles and saved that amount instead.
