Try a New Experimental Design for YouTube With This Browser Setting
Chrome: The design of YouTube on the web hasn’t changed much in recent years, but Google seems to be looking into updating the old site. If you want to try out a new look before it goes on sale, here’s how to do it.
As Reddit user giorgiomarinel points out, Google is currently testing a new kind of YouTube based on its Material Design guidelines . We don’t know when it will be out, but you can try it now if you’re comfortable fiddling with Chrome’s developer console. To do this, follow the instructions of gieorgiomarinel here:
1) go to https: www.youtube.com/?gl=US.
2) open developer tools (ctrl + shift + i)
3) go to the Resources tab and delete the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie for the youtube domain.
4) go to the console and define the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie using the following command:
document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=Qa1hUZu3gtk;path=/;domain=.youtube.com”;
5) reload the page
You can also reuse your VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie.
I tried it myself and at first it didn’t work on the YouTube page I was already logged in with. However, when I tried using incognito mode, it worked fine. It may not work in other browsers either, but you can try it yourself!
In most cases, the new design is very similar to the old site, but with some refinement. The most notable change, as you can see above, concerns the profile pages, which now use a much larger header image and a cleaner tabbed interface.
