Facebook and Messenger Apps Come With Windows 10

Facebook launched its new standalone Facebook and Messenger apps for Windows today, offering built-in desktop notifications, a faster news feed, and a built-in browser to make sharing articles even easier.

On a blog post today , Facebook announced the apps and explained some of the key features that Windows users can expect. The Facebook app can be accessed from the Start menu and is designed to load your news feed much faster than your browser or previous versions of the app (there was the Facebook app for Windows 8). You will receive built-in desktop notifications and you can pin the Facebook live tile to your desktop to show you all the latest updates to your news feeds. The Facebook app also makes sharing photos easy by providing easy access to File Explorer or other favorite photo apps.

The Messenger app supports built-in desktop notifications, so your new messages will appear in the Notification Center. Apart from notifications, this is basically the same as the Messenger web app , but payments, voice and video calls, and in-app taking photos or videos are not yet supported (they will be available soon). The Facebook app is available for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 computers, while the Messenger app is available for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and possibly Windows 10 Mobile devices. For now, these applications are only available for Windows desktops. You can download them for free from the Microsoft Store using the links below.
