Would You Buy a Chromebook If It Had Android Apps?
We got a very clear indication yesterday that Google is migrating its Android-based Google Play store to Chromebooks. This could be a game changer. Will this affect your buying decision?
For a while, we suspected this would happen. Google has been working to make Android apps work in Chrome since 2014 . As noted by Ars Technica in a recent leak, Google may very soon plan to add “over a million” Android apps to the platform. Moving the Play Store to Chrome OS would mean a massive infusion of apps for a platform that, despite constant improvements , still lacks an app department.
Of course, we have yet to see how the entire Google Play Store will perform when ported to Chrome OS. However, assuming that apps work as well on Chromebooks as they do on Android devices, would that change your opinion? Do you think the infusion of local apps from a neighboring ecosystem will make Chrome OS an attractive alternative to competing laptops? Or is it still no match for a laptop that gets its own apps right from the start?
