Rest of the Day: TCM and Criterion to Launch Classic Movie Streaming Service
At first glance, I rolled my eyes at the sight of yet another movie streaming service joining the scattered and crowded online movie market, but this one is slightly different. Turner Classic Movies and Criterion have teamed up to host their catalog of classic films online.
- It’s called FilmStruck and will likely have one of the largest libraries of classic films available on the Internet . This is good! But that also means the Criterion Collection will leave Hulu this fall. Queue up for me some Preston Sturges movies and I’ll be ready. [ FilmStruck Press Release ]
- Google Hangouts for iOS has two useful new features . You can now share photos or links from other iOS apps with the sharing extension, and there’s also a new low power mode that turns off videos when your battery runs out. [The Next Web]
- The popular Android Twitter client Fenix is dead . Like other third-party Twitter apps before that, they just ran out of API tokens and were removed from the Play Store (but current users can continue to use it). Twitter isn’t really interested in supporting third-party apps, so Fenix is unlikely to grow again. [9to5Mac]
- YouTube is about to present shorter ads that should not be missed . Their new splash ad is just six seconds long and is especially aimed at mobile users. [Google Inside AdWords via TechCrunch ]
- Apple’s iPhone Updater is now available online . Previously, you had to go to a brick-and-mortar store to participate in a program that is a monthly installment plan designed to encourage you to update your iPhone to the latest version every 12 months. [MacRumors]
