Track How Much of Your Luggage Is Being Scattered With a Homemade Logging System

Have you ever wondered how much of your entire baggage is thrown away? DIYer Ben Heck has created a data logger that tracks the movement of your luggage.

As you would expect, this small project uses a set of accelerometers to track motion and then save it all to an SD card. Like many of Heck’s other projects, this one is a bit advanced and requires a lot of soldering, disassembly, and a fair amount of experimentation. The end result is a data file that you can check at the end of the flight to see exactly how much of your bag was thrown. Since you cannot turn back time, there is little you can do to fix any problems, but at least you will know what happened to your bag while you were away. At the very least, it demonstrates how to log data from accelerometers, which can be useful in a variety of other projects.
