Drill Straighter Holes Using Your Old CD As a Guide
If you’re having trouble punching straight holes with a hand drill, an old CD can be a cheap and effective guide.
You can buy a custom drilling guide from your local hardware store, but why waste your money when there are things you can use at home. If you want to drill straighter holes, Carla Bruni of Make suggests you take an old CD, turn it upside down and center the marked spot you want to drill in the middle of the hole on the disc. Now when you place the drill, you can use reflection to see if the drill is tilted before drilling. When the drill and its reflection are straight, you can start drilling.
