Create a Personal Fitness Mantra to Keep You Motivated to Exercise
On days like this, you hesitate to set your alarm at 6 a.m. to go to the gym, or skip happy hour in favor of running, invent and repeat your own personal fitness mantra. Because it will be based on your own ideals and values , it is a powerful reminder that will keep you motivated.
A mantra is a sacred word, phrase, sound or group of Sanskrit words commonly used in meditation and spiritual activities. It doesn’t have to have literary meaning, but it often has spiritual and personal meaning. One example is the rhythmic om given during yoga practice.
Ideally, your personal mantra should be built around your deepest values or what you want to achieve, and then condensed into a word that instills self-awareness, confidence, and positivity. The Greatist article summarizes this as your “monosyllabic parting talk,” but it could actually be anything. Here’s what you do:
- Review your greatest accomplishments.
- Rate each item from one to 10.
- Pick one item that will make you feel the most confident, confident, and strong.
- Concentrate it in one word.
- Use this one word every day.
I also made one for myself. Despite the fact that I have been in sports for many years, these days I need to kick my croup to start exercising. So, I would think about how strong and independent I feel to be able to lug my over 70 pounds of luggage through the streets of Tokyo alone; or be in good shape, such as walking many miles to discover new wonders without feeling too overwhelmed. It reminds me of the Legend of Zelda video game in which many of them explore new places (withepic music playing ).
Now my one word mantra is Zelda.
Your personal mantra can be a phrase if you like. You can use it anytime to remind you why you want to achieve something, or when you just want to generate more positivity and motivation. The beauty of this is that you can create it for any area of your life at any time. Let us know in the comments what your personal mantra is, fitness or whatever.
