Make Food You Dislike More Bearable by Keeping Your Face Relaxed
Do you know that puckered, wrinkled face that you make when you are about to eat something that you know you don’t really like? Well, if you want to make the whole process easier for yourself, try your best to keep your face relaxed.
Sometimes you need to eat what you don’t like. Maybe you are dining at someone’s house and want to be polite, or maybe you need to start eating more fruits and vegetables and you don’t give a damn about them. It turns out that the flinch you make when you go to take a bite sets you up for failure. This is why Hana Zikgraf , Ph.D. PhD in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania suggests relaxing your face. Zicgraf explains to Science of Us’s Katherine Hobson that this face is actually preparing your body to avoid swallowing and vomiting. Get rid of the “nasty” face, relax and take a bite when you’re ready. Zikgraf also recommends not keeping food in your mouth and examining its texture for too long. Imagine this is a regular food that you love to eat every day, and you will feel much better.
