PS4 Remote Play Now Available on Windows and Mac, Here’s How to Set It Up

Windows / Mac: Sony has updated the firmware on the Playstation 4 and, in addition to many minor features , has also received Remote Play, which allows you to stream PS4 games to your Windows or Mac computer.

Thanks to the remote play function, you can control your PS4 from your computer both from your home network and remotely. First of all, you need to make sure your PS4 has the latest firmware. On your Playstation, go to Settings> System Software Update to make sure you have Firmware 3.5 installed. From there, the setup process is very simple but takes a couple of steps. First, you need to make sure your PS4 system is properly configured to use Remote Play:

  1. On your PS4, go to Settings> Remote Play Connection Settings and select the Enable Remote Play check box.
  2. Go to Settings> PlayStation Network / Account Management> Activate as Primary PS4> Activate to make sure PS4 is listed as your primary device.
  3. Go to Settings> Power Saving Settings> Set Functions Available in Rest Mode and check the boxes next to Stay connected to the Internet and Allow PS4 to turn on from the network.

Then you just need to install the Remote Play software:

  1. Download and install the Remote Play app for your computer’s operating system.
  2. Connect your PS4 controller to your computer. Remote Play only works with a PS4 controller, so be sure to take it with you if you plan on accessing your PS4 while you’re away.
  3. Log in with your Sony username. The Remote Play app will then search and register your PS4, which may take a few minutes.

That being said, you will be able to access your PS4 from anywhere using a Wi-Fi connection. If you have any streaming issues, you can change the video quality and frame rate options in the remote play settings.
