WhatsApp Includes End-to-End Encryption for Every Message

WhatsApp, the popular messaging app , has deployed encrypted messages for its entire service. Encryption now protects texts, voice calls, videos and chats.

The new encryption service covers all WhatsApp applications and all of its services. This means that even WhatsApp employees do not have access to any data transmitted over the network. WhatsApp uses public key encryption. This encrypts the message on your side and then uses the private key to decrypt the message on the receiving side. If you’re wondering exactly how this works, WhatsApp has a whitepaper posted here (PDF). You don’t need to do anything to enable this feature, but you can verify that it works by looking at the padlock icon under the contact information in your messages.
