US Airlines, Ranked
Wichita State University and Embry-Riddle Aviation University conduct an annual survey of major US airline metrics. The results of this year have been summed up, and you may be surprised by the ranking.
The Airline Quality Rating (AQR) evaluates airlines based on their on-time performance, forced denied boarding, mishandled baggage, and customer complaints. Overall, the aviation industry improved on the first three criteria, but customer complaints reached their highest level in 15 years. Flying seems to suck even lately.
Here is the ranking for 2015. The numbers in brackets represent the airline’s rating in 2014:
- Virgin America (1)
- JetBlue (4)
- Delta (3)
- Hawaiian (2)
- Alaska (5)
- Southwest (6)
- SkyWest (10)
- United (9)
- ExpressJet (11)
- American (7)
- Border (8)
- Messenger Eir (12)
- Spirit (first time in 2015 ranking)
This is somewhat in line with our previous analysis of US airlines , at least with Virgin and JetBlue at the top and Spirit at the bottom.
