Rest of the Day: Universal Skype Coming Soon to Windows Insiders
Microsoft is slowly moving towards a unified platform for mobile, tablet and desktop, and they will soon release a new version of Skype that works everywhere. Remember Swarm, the Foursquare spin- off ? It has several new features. No flipping!
- In the next few weeks, Microsoft will release a preview of a new universal version of Skype designed to work on all Windows 10 platforms. This means that one application will work on your tablet, Windows phone, and desktop. [Skype]
- New user profiles have been added to Swarm that show more statistics about your browsing history . You may recall – in fact, you probably don’t remember – that Swarm arose out of Foursquare, which retained Yelp-like features. [Foursquare via The Verge ]
- The Vevo app now has personalized feeds based on your activities on Spotify, Twitter and YouTube to make it easier for you to follow your favorite bands. This feature launched on Android and will be coming to iOS soon. [The Next Web]
- Google now offers a shortcut for weather information that you can place on your home screen that displays weather information in the Google app. Finally, there was a way to find out the weather on the phone without calling the local meteorologist. [Android Authority]
- Google is working on a keyboard for iOS . Verge says it will have built-in search, gesture-based typing so you can navigate from letter to letter without lifting your finger, and other features related to other Google services. There is no street date as it has not yet been announced. [The Verge]
