DeskConnect, an App That Makes It Easy to Transfer Files Between IOS and Mac, Redesigns
Mac / iOS: There hasn’t been a shortage of apps that aim to simplify the process of sending files, photos, clipboard content, and everything else between iOS and Mac. Even Apple is doing it with AirDrop . But one of the first apps to do this, DeskConnect , just got an update that adds a bunch of modern features.
DeskConnect is created by the same people who developed the Workflow Automation app , but it hasn’t been updated for a long time. DeskConnect is a web service that can instantly move data between devices, such as iPhone to Mac, and vice versa. Once you download the iOS and Mac app, you sign up for an account and the data between the two will sync instantly. Unlike something like Dropbox, DeskConnect only stores data for 30 days, and there is a 100MB limit for files. This means that it is most useful to quickly send the contents of a file, link, or clipboard between your devices. In my experience, data is sent in real time and I have not experienced any failures in transmission. DeskConnect isn’t as powerful as an app like Pushbullet , but it’s more useful than AirDrop, so it falls somewhere in between.
Unlike other options, DeskConnect does not rely on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so it will work on any phone model or any Mac model. This recently updated version includes all the new iOS features you’ve come to expect, such as shared tables, 3D Touch support, iPad multitasking support, a number of workflow options, and more. It’s also free for both Mac and iOS, so it’s pretty easy to sell if you’re not satisfied with AirDrop.
