Sleep With Light (or No) Clothing for Deeper and Better Sleep

When you go to bed, your body starts to cool down as it calms down. The easier it is to do this, the better you will sleep. Help your body along with minimal light clothing.

Sleeping in light, loose combat clothing – or walking all night and sleeping naked – isn’t just comfortable, according to news organization Mic on its Science website. It helps your body regulate its temperature to sleep better. You don’t need to spend as much energy as sleeping during the day, so your body can lower its core temperature to conserve energy. Lowering your core temperature can help you sleep more soundly.

From a health standpoint, it’s important to let your body cool down while you sleep, Stevenson said. Cooling lowers blood pressure, which in turn helps the body activate the “rest and digestive system,” also known as the parasympathetic nervous system. Refrigeration also helps the body release certain hormones and repair enzymes, he said.

Moreover, everyone has their own personal preferences. If you’ve slept well in large, heavy pajamas your entire life, sleeping naked can cause you even more discomfort. Worrying will keep you awake and negate any health benefits. However, if you are comfortable with making small changes, or need to try something to get you better sleep, the clothes you wear can make the difference.
