ProtonMail Is the Easiest Way to Send and Receive Encrypted Emails
Internet / Android / iOS: Are you worried about someone intercepting or listening to your email messages? ProtonMail is a free open source email service that protects your privacy and security. It is also very easy to use.
The Swiss service, developed by scientists from CERN and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, today exited invitation-only beta testing, along with new apps for Android and iOS.
ProtonMail stores all of your emails encrypted, which means that even a company cannot read your emails. Emails you send and receive with other ProtonMail users are automatically encrypted end-to-end, so even if someone intercepts the messages, they cannot be read.
And you can also encrypt end-t0-end messages with email addresses other than ProtonMail: when creating a message, press the encrypt button and enter the password. The recipient of your encrypted email will receive a link to the message and will prompt for a password to read it.
Another handy feature is the ability to set an expiration date for the emails you send, that is, self-destructing emails.
Although you must use your [id] @ ProtonMail.com email address to use these security features, you may receive daily notifications sent to a different email address if new messages appear in your ProtonMail account.
There are many other ways to encrypt your email, including PGP , but ProtonMail is probably the easiest method so far. The free version gives you 500MB of storage for one email address and up to 150 messages per day. Upgrade to Plus ($ 6 / month or $ 55 / year) to get more storage and email address, including the option to use a custom domain.
