Use Stale Bread for a Classic Hearty Soup
Using stale bread is easy, but turning it into a hearty and delicious meal is easier than you might think. All you need is stale bread and a couple of things you probably already have in your pantry.
Combine some chopped onions, garlic, broth (any kind of beef, chicken, vegetables), stale bread (either torn or cut into small pieces) and your choice of herbs and spices for a quick and tasty soup. It’s very simple to make; you can take a look at all the ingredients (or taste to see how it works). The starch in the bread will thicken the soup and the broth will soften the dried bread. Stick to plain breads like sourdough bread as they break down better than bread stuffed with seeds like rye.
Once you have mastered the basics, you can make soup using whatever you have. Canned tomatoes or beans from the back of the pantry, fresh vegetables, or leftover meat to use up work equally well. Follow the link below for several options for adding bread to your soup.
