The IRS Won’t Call to Review Your Tax Return, so Don’t Fall for Fraud
Tax scams pop up every year and the IRS recently announced a popular scam that is widespread this season. The scammers have called taxpayers to tell them they need to check certain details in order to process your refund.
The IRS reported:
The latest change seen over the past few weeks is trying to win back the current tax season. The scammers call and say they have your tax return and just need to check a few details in order to process your tax return. The scam tries to trick you into giving up personal information, such as a social security number, or personal financial information, such as bank or credit card numbers.
IRS Commissioner John Koskinen says they will never call you unexpectedly and ask you to verify personal information, so if you receive these phone calls from the IRS, you are most likely cheating, so do not give out your Information.
If you or someone you care about receives these calls recently, the IRS recommends that you report them to the Treasury General Revenue Administration or the FTC . In any case, it is always helpful to be extra vigilant at this time of year.
